There are 6 different topics in this series of "Excursion with Experts" that will bring you to explore the flora, birds, geology and war relics in the country parks. Come and learn about the natural side of Hong Kong and their stories, while enjoying the delightful and refreshing atmosphere in our country parks!

Each topic of "Excursion with Experts" will be conducted two times from November 2023 to January 2024 and enrolment will be open in two rounds. For more information on the excursion and enrolment, please refer to the followings:

Application Guidelines:

  1. The enrolment period for the first round of "Excursion with Experts" is from 09:00, 24 October 2023 to 23:59, 5 November 2023.
  2. The enrolment period for the second round of "Excursion with Experts" is from 09:00, 6 December 2023 to 23:59, 20 December 2023.
  3. Each applicant can apply more than one sessions. For each session, each applicant can reserve up to two quotas, and each email can only register once.
  4. Participants should select activities that suit your physical abilities.
  5. Participants aged 12 or below must enrol and join the activity with an adult aged 18 or above.
  6. Quotas are allocated by balloting.
  7. Successful applicants will receive a confirmation email within five working days after the deadline, while applicants without receiving a confirmation email will be placed on the waiting list.
  8. The latest notification to the successful applicants on the waiting list will be three days before the activity date.
  9. Unsuccessful applicants will not receive any notification emails.
  10. Please treasure educational resources. If you are unable to attend to a confirmed activity, please contact us as soon as possible by email at nature@afcd.gov.hk.
  11. Participants who fail to attend the activity without a prior notice will affect their future applications.

 

Birds Round the Corner:

Introduction:

You may think that birds are hard to observe as they are flying swiftly. In fact, if you slow down you pace, you will find out that birds are around us. Do you know the daily lives of these amazing birds? Why are black kites always soaring in the sky? Do birds return to their nest at the same time every day? There are "chick –sitter" in the bird world as well!

Join the tour at the Lions Nature Education Centre to have a peek of a bird's life. We will be using our eyes, with the aid of telescopes, and our ears to listen to birds' calls, to find the amazing birds. Enjoy nature, treasure our avian friends!

Herbal Treasures in Country Parks:

Introduction:

Tai Tam Valley is the gem of Tai Tam Country Park which is set amidst sheer peaks as a green pocket. From the uplands, rainwater flows down deep ravines to form meandering hill streams that nourish the vegetation, providing rich diversity of flora and medicinal herbs in the Valley. Follow our guide to explore the treasures inside Country Parks, and learn more about the plant species with medicinal values.

War Relics to tell a Hong Kong Story:

Introduction:

Standing tall amidst the bustling city of Hong Kong, Lion Rock witnessed war and peace in Hong Kong in the early 20th century. Led by Dr. Kwong Chi Man, walk along the former military defence lines, past pillboxes, direction slabs, trenches, bunkers, and other war relics, to understand the wartime history of the city.

Flora of Tai Mo Shan:

Details

Introduction:

Tai Mo Shan, the highest mountain in Hong Kong, is enriched with diverse habitats along its height. Walking up from Tai Mo Shan Visitor Centre to Wo Tong Kong, apart from the field of silvergrass, there are also lots of distinctive plant species in the high altitude area. No matter you observe the plants from a distance or have a closer look, you will be amazed by the wonder of plants!

Decrypting Shek Lung Tsai Rock Cluster:

Introduction:

Located in the area of Shek Lung Tsai, the stone cluster is filled with peculiar-shaped giant stones. The surface is covered with pits and grooves, or cut by "X"-shaped cracks. What kind of rocks are these? How were they formed? Why are they here? With your feet and imagination, follow our geology expert to delve into this "wonderful and strange rock" and explore its secrets.

Tai Tong Nursery produces various seedlings through a series of dedicated procedures, from seed collection, sowing to cultivation in the Nursery. Join "How Seedlings are Nursed" to learn about the operation of Tai Tong Forest Nursery, which is part of the vegetation management work of Country Parks.
