“National Ecology Day” Exclusive Tour

“Excursion in Country Park” is a series of guided tours that lead you into Hong Kong country parks, to explore country parks’ ecology, cultural history, and natural landscape.

Excursion in Country Park – "National Ecology Day" Exclusive Tour is now available! Every year, 15th August is the National Ecology Day, which aims to enhance the public awareness towards pursuing ecological civilisation and environmental protection. In response to the National Ecology Day, the "National Ecology Day" Exclusive Tours will introduce you to Hong Kong's butterflies and nocturnal animals. Through encountering these animals up close, we hope to raise public awareness on treasuring and conserving Hong Kong's natural environment.

"National Ecology Day" Exclusive Tour will be held in August 2025, with two themes and two identical sessions for each theme. Enrolment starts from 12:00, 22 July 2025 and ends at 23:59, 3 August 2025.

Application Guidelines:

  1. The enrolment period is from 12:00, 22 July 2025 to 23:59, 3 August 2025.
  2. Applicants can apply for more than one sessions. Each applicant can reserve up to two quotas for each session. Each email can only be registered once for each session.
  3. Participants aged below 18 should be accompanied by an adult.
  4. Participants should apply for activities base on their physical ability.
  5. If the number of applications exceeds the quota for each session, places will be allocated by balloting.
  6. Successful applicants will receive a confirmation email within five working days after the application deadline. Applicants who do not receive confirmation email will be placed on the waiting list.
  7. If place is available, successful applicant on the waiting list will receive a notification email at least three days before the date of the activity.
  8. Unsuccessful applicants will not receive any email.
  9. Please treasure education resources. If you are unable to attend a confirmed tour, please contact us as soon as possible by email at nature@afcd.gov.hk.
  10. Participants who fail to attend the activity without a prior notice will affect their future applications.

 

Finding Butterflies

Details

Introduction:

There are Butterfly Paradise and Butterfly Garden in Shing Mun Country Park, where various nectar plants and larval food plants are planted to attract butterflies and their larvae. Country park guides will explore with you the world of butterflies by guiding you to observe different butterfly species in these two places, and introducing information on butterflies. If you are lucky, you may also find the protected butterfly species, White Dragontail (Lamproptera curius) and Common Birdwing (Troides helena).

The Mysterious Nocturnal Animals

Details

Introduction:

If you go to the countryside at summer night, you may find a summer that is different from the blazing hot one you used to know. We will introduce you to the mysterious amphibians and reptiles that are active at night, such as snakes, lizards, frogs, toads, etc. Although you may not be able to see clearly at night, if you prick up your ears and open your eyes to listen and see carefully, you will find their mysterious tracks!
